Installation and applications of Sandstone Crazy Paving

Crazy Paving is a unique way to enliven way your outdoor space. Originally stones that were called quarry waste were utilized as Crazy Pavers. Stones in random shapes and sizes were laid together to create a haphazard pattern. This jumbled arrangement lends the name Crazy Pavers to these paving stones. The traditional homes then used crazy paving stones as steppers to raise the height of the outdoor space. Gradually these stones evolved into a décor element and soon became a part of the stone industry.

The types of Crazy Pavers

Crazy paving stones are available in a variety of sizes, types, hues, and shapes. There is a huge assortment of stones that are suitable for crazy paving. From solid Limestone and Bluestone to soft coloured Travertine and Sandstone, the variety is endless. Limestone is commonly used across households because it is easy to work with, has immense durability, and the colour options are huge. Sandstone Crazy Paving is preferred by homeowners for its desert-like appearance and beige shades. Most of the historic constructions have Sandstone pavers which have stood the test of time. Beside its solidity, Sandstone Crazy Paving stones lend a natural slip resistance, making it safe to walk on.

How to install Sandstone Crazy Pavers

The stone arrangement is marked on the floor with smaller stones to fit in small spaces. The gaps in between the stones are filled with contrasting colour of grout.  Here is an installation guide to Sandstone Crazy Paving:

  1. Measure

Of course, the first step in determining how many Sandstone Crazy Pavers you’ll need is to measure the area. Calculate the area of crazy paving in square meters by taking a measurement around the whole perimeter of the area. Additionally, include stone sealant in your budget to prevent future overspending. When the stones are exposed to heavy traffic, extreme weather, or moisture, sealant is important to protect them.

  1. Plan the area

To form a border around the proposed paving area, gather spikes and threads. Put a spike in the ground and connect it to another spike in a different corner or edge by wrapping a string around it. The paving stones do not leave the designated region because of the barrier or map that will be created. Crazy pavers frequently stray from their designated area due to their arbitrary shapes.

  1. Preparing the base and laying the stones

Wet Mortar Bedding method:

  • Use a flexible glue to attach the stones to the concrete slab if their thickness is 20 mm or less and you’re laying them on top of the slab.
  • Apply the adhesive, insert the mortar mix, and dampen the concrete. Apply the bonding adhesive to the stone’s back as well.
  • Set the stone in position and give it a light whack with a rubber mallet to prevent scratching the stone. By tapping, you may make sure there are no air bubbles under the stone, which could eventually cause the adhesive to fail. The larger stones should always be laid first, followed by the smaller filler stones.
  • Open joints with an 8–10 mm gap should be permitted. Remove any surplus mortar before filling the area between the stones.
  • Utilize a clean sponge and water to remove extra material from the surface. This will prevent any mess and discoloration of the stones.

Adhesive Bedding method:

  • If you plan to lay the stones directly on the ground, create a screed of sand and cement over a compact road basis.
  • After the screed has been dried and smoothed, any oil, dust, or debris should be cleaned up.
  • Butter the back of the stone and prepare a homogeneous layer of glue that is at least 8 to 10 mm thick. Prior to applying the adhesive, always clean the stone.
  • Please take care to prevent excessive air exposure from causing the glue to dry out. Apply adhesive to each stone individually as a result.
  • With a rubber mallet, place the stones and tap them. Always start with the larger stones and fill up the spaces with the smaller ones. Consistently allow 7 to 10 mm for open joints.iv) Grouting

Both approaches would use the same grouting procedure.

  • Wet the Sandstone Crazy Pavers and grout joints using a sponge.
  • Grout the joints being careful to keep vacuums away. Push the grout down to the stones’ full depth. Removing extra grout with a trowel is necessary.
  • Use a moist sponge to wipe the paving stones after the grout has dried, removing any excess grout as well as any debris. For tough substances like oil or debris, use a nylon pad and a pH-neutral cleanser.
  • Please take note that using acidic cleaners will cause irreparable harm to the grout and stone. v) Sealing

Sealing is the last stage of the crazy paving installation. The stones are shielded and made durable, as was already indicated. The use of a high-quality penetrating sealer is advised to keep the stones’ colour and brilliance locked in.
