Ways To Make Your Emulator Work Efficiently

In computing terminology, an emulator is a tool, hardware, or software that allows one computer system, which serves as a host, to function like some other computer system, which works as the guest. It is an android developer’s one of the most powerful tools in his arsenal of development software. Talking about the Android world, since almost 85% of all mobile devices run on it, an android emulator is a tool that lets you create and test your own desired Android projects across more devices. Hence, they tend to be useful for testing early in the development cycle of the project. Emulators are capable of a lot of things. Emulators are best used on Androids, but if you have an iOS software that you want to run on an Android device, then you should see this blog post about iOS emulator for Android. They are, to this date, the best way to check the compatibility of your app with a lot of different hardware and software configurations.

Given below are some popular open-source emulators which are present for all the major OS:

  • BlueStacks: allows Android apps to run on Windows and Mac both.
  • NoxPlayer: works the same as BlueStacks.
  • Xcode: enables IOS to run Windows and Mac both.
  • Nestopia enables the play of Nintendo games on Linux OS.
  • Appetize.io: allows the use of IOS apps on any PC.

Thanks to such a plethora of emulators, interested gamers may play games from other platforms on their desired devices as well.

Because of its mimicking ability, many gamers tend to use emulators to play games using their codes and data, making them run on a system that usually won’t work. Yet most developers and game enthusiasts have to face the big flaw of the emulators, which comes into the role the time you launch your emulator, and that flaw is that the emulators take up quite a long time to load. They fail to work with the expected efficiency, which happens more on the low-end PCs and

when one tries to test games and visual effects.

Emulators are pretty powerful engines that need very high-quality specifications and even

higher capacities to run smoothly. If one wants emulators to run at full speed on their PCs, one will need some nice components like a great processor, GPU, ROM, RAM, etc. Systems with Windows 10 (64-bit), advanced AMD or octa-core Intel processor with 8 GB RAM, and proper GPU set-up will make the emulators run smoother.

But this isn’t the general scenario for most of us, and hence, we have to look for ways to make the emulators work efficiently and comparatively smoother on low-end PCs. Let us now look at the steps by which we can make our emulators work relatively better.

    Windows:

    • Install “Intel x86 Emulator Accelerator (HAXM)”.
    • Install “Intel x86 Atom System Images”.
    • Open the Android SDK root folder and go onto the location: ‘extrasintelHardware_Accelerated_Execution_Manager.’
    • Execute the file IntelHaxm.exe to install.
    • Create AVD with the Intel Atom x86 CPU/ABI.
    • Run the emulator and check in the console that HAXM is running.

Note: During AVD creation, add the emulation memory set up value 512 or more.

Apart from all of the steps mentioned above, if the system is full of redundant apps, it will directly affect its performance and reduce the emulator’s efficiency.

The developer can use various other modifications, hacks, and solutions to increase the speed with which emulators run on PCs. One such example of this can be observed by enabling the VT (Virtual Technology) in BIOS.

Let us understand in detail by taking the example of NoxPlayer.

Step 1: Reconfigure the RAM and CPU allocated to NOX.

    • Performance settings:
    • Select the number of CPU and Memory – Middle (Core 2 CPU, 3072 Memory).
    • Choose graphics rendering mode: Enhanced compatibility mode OpenGL+.
    • Resolution setting: according to your monitor resolution.

Step 2: Enable VT to get enhanced performance.

    • Check if your Windows 10 computer virtualization is enabled or disabled.
    • Then, click on the Start button and Restart your computer after closing all files open on the computer. (Don’t forget to save your applied settings as well.)
    • Now, enter into BIOS by pressing Delete/F2 continuously while booting the computer.
    • Go to Advanced > Processor > CPU > Virtualisation or Virtual.
    • Set the VT (Virtual Technology) option to enabled.

Step 3: Clean up Disk Space on NoxPlayer.

    • Click ‘Mul-drive” on the toolbar.
    • Select and clean the desired files.

Note: Don’t cancel or close NoxPlayer during the cleanup process.

Step 4: Switch to the high-performance processor.

    • First, download and install the NVIDIA Control Panel if you don’t have it.
    • Go to Adjust image settings with preview, select use the advanced 3D image settings.
    • Go to Manage 3D settings. Switch to the Global Settings tab and select the High-performance NVIDIA processor.
    • If one only wants to activate the higher performance graphic card for Nox App Player, switch to the Program settings tab.
    • Click the drop-down menu underneath ‘Select a program to customize and select NoxPlayer.

You may update your outdated drivers to their latest version as well.

In this article, we took a look at some ways to enhance the efficiency of the emulators because they are an integral part of a developer’s tools. Hence, their increased efficiency will assist them in the development of apps and other peculiar programs.
